1. この主張は中味がない。主観的な根拠なき主張にすぎない。デザインの客観的証拠を記述しようとしたときの困難さが、デザインが自明では全然ないことを示している。
2. 人々が存在しないデザインを見てしまう理由がある。

• 人間は擬人化する。我々は人間のような特徴が他のあらゆるものにあると考える傾向がある。デザインは人間によるものなので、我々はデザインを広く解釈する。
• 進化も、ある種の人間のデザインも、同じ物理的制約のもとでの複雑なシステムに対処している。
• 進化はデザイン過程と同じような特性を持っている。既存品に対する試行錯誤による修正と、劣ったバージョンの破棄である。
