- 人間の足跡とされるものは、人間の足跡ではない。たとえば：
- その一部は恐竜の足跡である。浸食されたり、埋まったり、泥が崩壊したりして、足跡の恐竜の特徴を不明瞭になり、巨人の足跡のようになっているが、注意深くクリーニングすれば、3つの爪をもつ恐竜の足跡であることが明らかになる[Hastings 1987; Kuban 1989]。
- 著名な足跡は浸食された特徴あるいは、その他のイレギュラーである。選択的に着目しない限り、明確な人間の足跡の特徴は見えない。
- 一部の足跡のは明確な改竄の証拠が見られる[Godfrey 1985]。
- Paluxyの足跡は、証拠に直面した時の創造論者の希望的観測と不本意さの実例である。一部の創造論者はPaluxyの足跡についての主張を否定したが、多くの創造論者は未だに、しがみついている[Schadewald 1986]。
