In 1883, a Turkish commission surveying Ararat for possible avalanche conditions found part of the ark protruding twenty or thirty feet from the foot of a glacier, according to the British newspaper Prophetic Messenger.

- 報告によれば、探検隊は深い森と通り、腰まで浸かった川を通ったことになっているが、他のアララト山の詳細記述に反している。
- 探検隊は木材が古くて塗装されていたにもかかわらず、そして誰もGopherwoodがどんなものか知らないのに、発見した木材をGopherwoodだと判別した。
- Prophetic Messengerが引用した元々の発表が見つからない。
