   我々は光合成の進化を解き明かすことが簡単なことだとは考えていない。光合成は真核生物よりも前から、30億年以上かけて進化してきた[Awramik 1992]。その初期の歴史では。複数の門の細菌の間で遺伝子の転移が起きており、遺伝子的にｊ系統を追跡することは困難である[Raymond et al. 2003]。光合成の異なる構成要素は、独立した進化経路をたどっている。しかし、光合成の進化方法の特定について研究が進展している[Baymann et al. 2001; Blankenship 1992; Blankenship and Hartman 1998; Xiong and Bauer 2002]。
