- 神話や伝説で火を吐くのはドラゴンに限らない。チペワ族の神話には火を吐く蛇[Norman 1990, 127-131]がいた。ギリシャ神話には火を吐く雄牛[Ovid 1958 bk 7]がいた。聖書黙示録9章17-18節には火を吐く馬が登場する。火を吐くことは伝承のモチーフであり、字義通り受け取るべきでない。
- 複数の頭を持つ[グリム童話の"二人兄弟"やアッカディア神話のバスムなど (Dalley 1989, 323)]など、ドラゴンには恐竜にはないファンタジーな特徴がある。伝説の生物の存在は聖書を字義通り解釈できるという主張を裏付ける証拠としては不十分だ。
