Earth's rotation is slowing down, so it cannot be more than a few million years old.

Response:
- 地球の自転は毎年、0.005秒[1年の自転時間、1年ごとに1日が0.00001秒長くなっている]減速している。これを外挿すると、46億年前は1日14時間程度だったことになる。これは不可能な数字ではない。
現在の地球の減速率は平均よりも大きい。というのは自転速度が海洋の運動と共鳴しているからである。
化石化したサンゴは毎日および毎年の成長パターンを記録しており、3億7000万年前は1日は22時間だったと推定され、これは減速率が一定だと仮定した場合の22.7時間とおおよそ合致している[Scrutton 1964; Wells 1963]。
