The geological column is a fiction, existing on paper only. The entire geological column does not exist anywhere on the earth.

1. 一地点に柱状地層全体が存在しなくても問題ではない。地質柱状図の全パーツは多くの場所に存在し、それらのパーツから地質柱状図全体を再構築するの十分な重なりがある、
   柱状地層がいかなる地点でも途切れていることは、古い地球の歴史とまったく整合している。堆積物が集まりやすい環境でのみ柱状地層は堆積する。時間とともに気候変動と地質学的変動が起きて、各地域は堆積環境と浸蝕環境を行き来する。
2. 世界には一地点で全地質時代の地層がある場所がある。たとえば、オーストラリアのボナパルト堆積盆地[Trendall et al. 1990, 382, 396]やノースダコタ州のウィリストン堆積盆地[Morton 2001]など。
