韓国は「馬と鳥類の進化の例の削除」を再考する (2012/07/10)
그동안 미온적 입장을 보였던 진화론 과학계는 이번 창조론자들의 ‘도발’에 크게 당황한 눈치다. 무대응에 대한 이유를 밝힌 장대익 서울대 교수(생물진화론)는 “대처해주는 것 자체가 그들의 이름을 올려주는 일이다. 창조론 진영의 전형적인 물타기 수법이다. 하지만 교과서는 전 국민이 배우는 것이다. 이 상황이라면 끝까지 링에 남을 것이다”라고 말하며 진화론 과학계가 앞으로 강경한 대처를 할 것임을 밝혔다.
これまで中途半端な態度を見せてきた進化論科学界は、今回の創造論者たちの"挑発"に大きく慌てた様子だ。これまで無視してきた理由を説明して、ジャンデイク ソウル大学教授（生物進化）は「対処すること自体が、彼らの名前を上げることになる。創造論陣営の典型的な"ムルタギ手法"(意図的に不確かな情報を流して世論が一方へ傾くのを妨害する行為)である。しかし、教科書は、全国民が学ぶものである。このような状況ならば、最後までリングに残るだろう」と述べて進化論科学界が今後、強硬な対応を行うことを明らかにした。
現政権は創造論にゆるいらしいとの情報もあるが...
한 생물학자는 “한국에 제인 구달이 방문했을 때 ‘나는 창조론자이다’라고 (이 대통령이) 말했다는 후문을 들었다. 전성기도 아닌 창조과학회가 최근 들어 잘나가는 이유가 의심스럽다”라고 말했다. 이명박 대통령이 장로로 있는 소망교회는 한국창조과학회를 적극 후원하는 대표적인 대형 교회이기도 하다.

The South Korean government is poised to appoint a new committee that will revisit a controversial plan to drop two examples of evolutionary theory from high school textbooks. The committee, to be led by insect taxonomist Byoung-Hoon Lee, a member of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology, has been asked to re-evaluate requests from a Korean creationist group to drop references to bird and horse evolution that they argue promote "atheist materialism."
At the same time, about 50 prominent Korean scientists are preparing to present government officials with a petition, organized by the Korean Association of Biological Sciences, which calls for rejecting the proposed changes.
"When these things are done, I think it will turn out that after all Korean science will not surrender to religion, so to speak," says Jae Choe, an evolutionary biologist at Ewha Womans University in Seoul who helped organize the petition.
韓国政府は、高校の教科書から進化論の2つの例を削除する論争な計画を再考する新しい委員会を任命する態勢を整えている。韓国科学技術アカデミーのメンバーである昆虫分類学者Byoung-Hoon Leeが主導する委員会は、韓国の創造グループが無神論唯物論を推進すると論じて鳥や馬の進化への言及を削除することを求めた件の再評価を依頼された。
同時に、約50名の著名な韓国人科学者が、教科書変更提案を拒否することを求めた。韓国生物科学会による請願を政府高官に提示する準備をしている。
「これらがなされれば、結局、韓国科学界は宗教に降伏しないことが明らかになるだろう」と。請願書のとりまとめを手伝っている、ソウルの梨花女子大学の進化生物学者Jae Choeは言う。

Prior to the Nature article, many scientists did not want to "participate in that muddy debate" over the teaching of evolution, says Dayk Jang, an evolutionary scientist at Seoul National University who also helped organize the petition. Choe, for example, hadn't wanted to debate with creationists because he worried that "responding to them somehow legitimizes their actions."
On 24 June, the controversy prompted the education ministry to announce that it would seek "expert opinions" on the issue from the Korean academy and the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies before finalizing the revisions. It asked Lee to lead the effort.
請願書のとりまとめを手伝っている、ソウル大学の進化学者Dayk Jang(장대익 ジャンデイク)は「Natureの記事が出るまで、多くの科学者は進化論教育をめぐる泥まみれの論争に参加したがらなかった」と言う。たとえば、「創造論者に対して反応することで、彼らの行動を正当化するのではないかという懸念から論争に参加したくなかった」と、ソウルの梨花女子大学の進化生物学者Jae Choeは言う。
6月24日に、論争に促されて、韓国教育省は教科書改訂決定の前に、韓国アカデミー及び韓国科学技術学会連合が問題にした件について、「専門家の意見」を求めることを発表した。
さらなる進撃を企てていた創造論団体「教科書進化論改訂推進会議」の動きは押しとどめられそうな感じ。
