Saturn's rings are unstable. They gradually drift outward, and disruption from bombardment could mean that they could not last more than 10,000 years. The rings cannot be billions of years old.

Response:

1. 土星の環は1億歳以下かもしれない[Cuzzi and Estrada 1998]。しかし、それは土星の年齢とは関係ない。土星の環は土星がロシュの限界（潮汐力で引き裂かれる距離）内に入ってきた衛星を捕獲した時に形成される。土星の歴史の中で、いつでも起きうることだ。
2. 土星の衛星は環を構成している粒子をガイドしていて、環がドリフトするのを抑止し、環と環の間の隙間を維持している。これにより、環は1億歳以上にわたって存在可能となるかもしれない。（環の色から環は1億歳を大きく越えないと思われる。）
