Response:
  1. 地球の磁場の強度が変動していること知られており[Gee et al. 2000]、地球の歴史の中で反転を繰り返してきた。これは対流モデル[Glatzmaier and Roberts 1995]や地球内部の地球物理的証拠[Song and Richards 1996]と整合している。地磁気の極性及び強度の観測では1590～1840年の間ではほとんど変化が見られない。最近の地磁気の変化は、極性反転を示していると考えられる[Gubbins et al. 2006]。
  2. 地球の磁場の観測は指数関数的減少を見せていない。歴史的な観測には指数関数カーブをフィットさせられるが、どんな観測についてもフィットさせられる。直線の方がよくフィットしている。
  3. T. G. Barnes [1973]は時代遅れの地球内部モデルに基づいて考えている。彼は地球内部を球体の導体で、単純に電流が減衰していると考えている。しかし、証拠は、磁場がダイナモで生じ、大半の電流は対流で総じているというElsasserのダイナモモデルを支持している。Barnesはカウンリングを引用して、Elsasserを否定しようとしているが、カウンリングの定理はダイナモ地球と整合している。
  4. Barnesは全磁場の双極子成分のみを測定しているが、双極子磁場測定では全磁場を測定できない。全磁場が変化しなくても、双極子磁場強度は変化する。
